Thunder-Hawks-Sixers Trade Breakdown

Oklahoma City gets: PG Dennis Schroder and SG/SF Timothe Luwawu-Cabborrot

The Thunder were looking to get out from the astronomical salary of Carmelo Anthony. By sending him to Atlanta they were able to absorb his salary and not send a bunch back to Oklahoma City. OKC had to send out a lottery protected first rounder to entice the Hawks to take on the Anthony salary for this season, coming off the books next season. In the process they acquired disgruntled point guard Schroder from Atlanta and TLC from Philadelphia. While Schroder may prove to see minutes alongside Russell Westbrook at times, he is viewed likely as the backup point guard. Off the bench Schroder should have freedom as a scorer and definitely help that Oklahoma City bench. The Thunder are loaded with young wings , but Luwawu-Caborrot should pencil himself into the backup small forward position behind Paul George. This deal also allows the Thunder to become better defensively at the four. I am a big fan of this trade as I feel Oklahoma City improved their squad, especially the bench. Grade: A

Atlanta gets: SF Carmelo Anthony, SF/PF Justin Anderson and 2022 first round pick(top 14 protected)

The Hawks had the cap space to absorb the Anthony deal and in the process unload their disgruntled point guard. Anthony will be bought out and go to a team of his choosing. I think the main goal here was to get rid of Schroder, who was expendable with the drafting of Trae Young and get a possible first rounder in doing it. So the only player in this deal that will suit up for Atlanta will be Anderson. He can be versatile and is a good defender, but I am unsure how he fits in with the Hawks. He is in a log jam as a wing, but could see his minutes as a four behind John Collins. Either way this was going to be a rebuilding year and getting Schroder unloaded and a first rounder in this deal was a good start. Grade: B

Philadelphia gets: PF/C Mike Muscala

Very good job by Philadelphia to get involved here to find a backup power forward and thin out their abundance of wings. I think Muscala will see good minutes backing up Dario Saric. Grade: B
